7 Tips for Writing Better Blogs

Trying to make a splash into the wide world of blog writing? Need some advice on improving your blog writing skills? Got blog writing ideas, but not sure how to find an audience to read them? Here are some basic tips that might just be that something you are looking for to get past a blog writing block.

1. Be Helpful

If your post is not informative, inspirational or even entertaining, why are you publishing it? Do not fill a blog with personal information or details that does not pertain to your readers. Readers need a purpose for reading a blog entry. Make sure your content has something to compel or educate anyone coming across it.

2. Be Unique

Why should web browsers come to your blog? Are you offering content that cannot be found elsewhere? There are literally thousands upon thousands of blogs on the internet, many of these offer writing on similar subjects. Find something that you are familiar with and passionate about that is not already widely discussed on the internet. Chances are you will find plenty of readers interested in checking out something new and unique.

3. Be Passionate

Showing that you care and are passionate about what you are writing means your readers will care too. Readers can tell when someone is putting that extra feeling and effort into a discussion and will share your enthusiasm.

4. Visual Appeal

The best blog writing sites are not frequented just for their writing content. Make your site a pleasure to look at and explore. Include pictures and videos to go along with your text content. Also make sure your site is easy to navigate.

5. Cut the Fluff

Excess words might be good if you are getting paid by the word or something… but usually more does not mean better. Edit your posts before publishing and cut out anything that is not necessary. Leaner, tighter entries are superior. If something is not absolutely necessary, leave it out.

6. Make Posts Scannable

It is said that only 16 percent of online readers read every word in a post. Format posts so that main topics and key words stick out. Whether that be changing color, using boldface or using lists to emphasize bullet points. You want readers to read everything you took time to write, so grab their attention right away and do not let them get away.

7. Practice Makes Perfect!

The most important part of making a better creative writing blog is to write, write, write! Writing is an art that you can only get better at by doing. You can look up everything and anything there is about blogging help, but you will never improve without putting that advice into practice.

Remember, not everyone hits a gold mine right away. Keep writing and keep getting your content out there and available for readers. With time and practice, your writing will improve and people will start to take notice. So get out there and start publishing!
