Alabama state trooper Billy James Slappey has been placed on administrative leave after being charged with two domestic violence misdemeanors.
Slappey, 41, turned himself in to Florence Police after the two charges were brought against him, according to reports from WHNT News 19 and AL.com.
Slappey has been charged with domestic violence/criminal mischief and domestic violence/harassment, both of which are misdemeanors in Alabama.
A report against Slappey was filed with One Place of the Shoals, a domestic violence agency that operates within the Lauderdale County District Attorney’s office. The report was filed sometime last week by a female Lauderdale County resident.
The identity of the woman has not been made public, but court records show that Slappey was divorced earlier this year.
The city magistrate reviewed evidence and interviews following the woman’s report and decided to issue a warrant for Slappey’s arrest. He was booked into the Lauderdale County jail on Monday, Sept. 28 and was later released on $2,500 bond.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency told WHNT News 19 that Slappey has been placed on mandatory administrative leave pending the investigation.
